You Might Think I’m Crazy

Look out now, I’m in 80’s mode. I’ve been listening to 80’s music all day, and I have more coming my way from the library soon. It drives Geoff crazy that I love 80’s music, but I secretly think he finds it adorable. I generally don’t subject him to it. Some of it is because it’s fun music, and some of it is because certain songs remind me of people, places, experiences, or movies. Pointer Sisters make me think of my dad, he liked them. The Cars remind me of a road trip I took with my family. Huey Lewis reminds me of when I was in dance. Genesis reminds me of my Uncle Barry.

I was trying to put up more pictures around the house today. Geoff gave me some frames for Christmas, and I finally got around to hanging them. We have many bare walls in our place, and I have designs on putting some posters into frames (someday). So I’m trying to save room for those one day. Also I feel like our place has tons of photos of us, and so I’m trying to find was to display photos that aren’t us. The thing about frames, I love when people buy them for me, but I want the option to hang it or set it up. I hate that not all frames come with that option!

I got two books out of the library to read. Yes, even though I have three books I’m in the middle of. The books I got are fiction, the books I’m reading are not. I got The Pleasure Of My Company by Steve Martin, and Death Rat by Mike Nelson. I’ve heard good things about them both, so I will be anxious to start those tomorrow afternoon.

For my Calgary fans (I could have fans), Easily Amused is playing at the University of Calgary on March 17 at noon. You should go for me. UofC has a beautiful campus. I’ve been once, when Doug, Geoff & I went for Geoff’s conference. That was a fun trip. We blew a tire like 40 minutes outside of Edmonton. Then we played hacky-sack in the grass divider while we waited for AAA. Ah, good times, good times.

In keeping with an 80’s themes, I’ll end with a quote from The Breakfast Club. God Bless Mr. Mills for letting us watch this in CALM class. 🙂

John: Hey, how come Andrew gets to get up? If he gets up, we’ll all get up, it’ll be anarchy.

Where’s Jesus?

The Passion Of The Christ isn’t going to play in Denver. Weird. We’ll have to drive up to Boulder to see it. I’m hoping to hit Blockbuster this week to rent Lost In Translation (which Chris liked), Intolerable Cruelty, and Seabiscuit.

I watched The Shrink Is In this weekend. It stars David & Courtney Cox Arquette. I enjoyed it, it was a good “watch on tv” movie. I think they are a neat couple. I also watched Hackers, and Geoff sat through some of it. I rented Down With Love & Bringin’ Down The House, but haven’t gotten to them yet. If you’ve got an opinion on either of them, drop me a line.

Did some sewing at work today, getting the last of the Machu Picchu stuff ready. The gift shop is filled with great Peruvian items. Ah, if I had money, I’d buy me a llama. A stuffed one naturally. Where would I put a real one?

I got some great cds out of the library today: Huey Lewis & The News greatest hits, Pretty In Pink soundtrack, Weird Al Yankovic UHF, Peter & the Wolf (narrated by David Bowie), and INXS Elegantly Wasted. I put 44 items on hold, and picked up 14 today. Crazy. I’m out of control!

It’s only fitting to end with a quote from UHF.

Philo: Hello, my name is Philo and welcome to Secrets of the Universe. Today we are going to learn how to make plutonium from common household items.

The Best Game You Can Name

Well, thank goodness I have a blog that is read by my family. Upon reading that I had plans to attend the Easily Amused concert on the 16th of March, I got a call from Dawn & Colin. Colin had already made plans to take me to an Oilers game that night. Well, if I have to choose between a great concert, or an evening with my favorite brother… I’d have to choose Colin. I never get to spend alone time with him (except when he came to visit California). I love my brother, he’s so funny, and one of the only people who’s known me forever. He also says he wants a bowling rematch. We’ll have to see what time affords us.

It’s a month until Edmonton. I am almost looking forward to it. As much as I want to see the world, I hate flying. It takes too long, there are too many rules, and I get motion sickness. I want teleporting, and I want it to be cheap (and safe). Is that too much to want?

We watched the Lion King last night. Since it was on tv, we decided to pop in the DVD as it would be shorter. It makes me want to see the musical again. 🙂 Today at couples group, everyone was talking about Finding Nemo. We may watch that tonight. After Mythbusters of course.

The snow we were supposed to get has not yet come. Yes! I can’t wait for the snow to be behind us.

My step-mom Debbie lost her dad last week. He’s been sick for a long time, always in and out of the hospital. I wasn’t surprised, but just relieved that he’s not suffering anymore. Makes me grateful I didn’t go through that with my dad. But keep the Newman family in your prayers.

Pepsi has a promotion right now that you can win a free song from iTunes. Everywhere I went I looked for a Pepsi that had the yellow lid. No where! What is up with that? How can I win if you don’t sell them?! Geoff says I shouldn’t be trying to buy a Pepsi, and I wouldn’t if he just gave me iTunes allowance (you can set that up. How cool is that!). 🙂 Now before you get on me about drinking Pepsi, let the record show that Colin & my dad both became traitors long before I did. If Coke had been smart enough to team up with iTunes, there wouldn’t be a problem.

I’ll close with a quote from So I Married An Axe Murderer.

Charlie Mackenzie: No, I tend to follow the Judao-Christian ethic of “Thou shalt not kill”. But, that’s just me.

Honey’s Post-Vet Pictures

Photos of Honey are available here.

No big plans for the weekend. It’s Friday, so tonight we’ll watch Monk. I was able to catch up on some correspondence this week, which makes me feel much less guilty. I didn’t get as much as I would have liked, but c’est la vie. Colin went on a job interview, which is good news. Pray that he lands a job soon and one that he enjoys.

Today I slept in and it felt great. Honey was in a much better mood today, though she did sneak some food last night off the counter. The vet office told us not to feed her more than a few teaspoons of food last night, as she’s still recovering, and that today she could go back to normal. Obviously Honey was way too hungry to wait. Now I feel bad as maybe I should have asked more questions. I miss Dr. Jen. 🙁 But as stated in an earlier post, Irvine is too far to drive for a vet appt.

Geoff thinks it’s crazy that so many people he knows have blogs. He claims he had one before they were hip to have them. He also says I misrepresented myself in the blog post about how I kicked butt at bowling. Fact: I did win that game. Fact not mentioned: Geoff was in the lead up until the last few frames, until I came from behind with a series of strikes. There, are you happy now Geoff? 😉

Oh, I nearly forgot to mention…Easily Amused is playing Edmonton on their tour! And it coincides with my visit! Yay! They are playing the Sidetrack Cafe on March 16, 9pm. Tickets are $7. I plan on being there, and anyone who wants to join me is more than welcome. Come enjoy an evening of great music and fellowship with Melissa.

I’m closing with a quote from Pretty In Pink.

Duckie: Blane? His name is Blane? That’s a major appliance, that’s not a name!

Poor Honey Cat

Poor kitty. She went in for a dental cleaning, and ended up losing two teeth, and had a cyst removed from her back. She’s still all groggy from the anesthesia, she looks so sad. It breaks my heart. I hope she forgives us.

Tuesday night we watched Scrubs (since it’s been moved off Thursdays for stupid Donald Trump!), and it makes me wonder why isn’t everybody hooked on this show? It’s so funny. Last night was Angel’s 100th episode, and it was like vintage Angel. Likely because they brought Charisma Carpenter back to give her character Cordelia some closure. Somebody at Angel decided they didn’t want her around so last year they gave her a stupid storyline & put her in a coma. I still like Angel, it just isn’t the same with CC. Even Geoff watched it with me. I did get a little choked up, but it was an excellent episode.

I finished one of the books I’d been reading, The Prophet by Frank Peretti. It was good, but then I like all that I have read by him. I started to read the book Geoff got me for my birthday, Men Are Like Waffles, Women Are Like Spaghetti. So far it hits pretty close to home and is very entertaining.

It’s still snowing. It stopped for a bit this afternoon then picked up again. It’s not coming down hard or fast, which is nice.

Lisa is a bowling goddess. 🙂 No she didn’t pay me to say that, and to most it won’t be a surprise. But the last two weeks she has had some stellar games. It’s been a while since the two of us have bowled together. I’d say we should do that next month, but really I don’t have the time. I have so much to do in the 8 days we’re there, it’s crazy. Wedding stuff will take at least 2 or 3 days. One day to go out to the farm, a day with Dylan, Colin & Dawn, and then try to see my friends. We’ll be staying with my mom, so I’ll get to see her everyday (which is great).

That’s all, I better go try to comfort Honey. First a little advice from Dr. Abby Barnes (The Truth About Cats & Dogs).

Abby: We can love our pets, we just can’t LOVE our pets.

Don’t get sentimental, it always ends up drivel

It’s snowing, as predicted. It started last night, and it hasn’t ended yet. Thankfully the wind hasn’t been too strong, so it isn’t unbearable. A good day at work, steady. I did do something today I wasn’t supposed to. I let a small group of kids passed the red ropes. We’re not supposed to do that. I watched them and made sure they knew they couldn’t touch anything. On a different note, Jeff (my boss) started singing Waltzing Matilda while we put the kangaroo in the parade. He wanted me to sing something from Peter & The Wolf as I moved the wolf. I couldn’t recall anything, so I told him I’d work on that for next week. Moving the wolf is my favorite. I’ll take suggestions for naming the wolf.

In the last few days, I watched Mallrats & America’s Sweethearts, both of which I’d seen before. I did get some movies I haven’t seen, but I haven’t watched them yet. Honey goes to the dentist tomorrow, she’ll be gone all day. I’m gonna miss her, who will keep me warm tomorrow?

I find it disappointing that it is Wednesday and everyone is still talking about Janet Jackson. Sigh.

Got a card in the mail that Geoff’s diploma is ready, so we’ll drop money & our new address in the mail and it’ll come by certified mail. FINALLY! I bought him a frame for it for graduation, and I’ve been dying to hang it. It has a picture of the Physical Sciences building on it.

As mentioned in a previous post, I’ve been corresponding with someone who found me online. It isn’t someone random, but rather my future brother-in-law’s sister-in-law. 🙂 Now I’ll know someone at the wedding. 🙂

For Heather, who took Geoff to see The Mummy when it came out, because I was scared to see it, I’ll quote The Mummy. (I’ve since seen it, several times, I love it!)

Evelyn: Where are they taking him?

Warden Gad Hassan: To be hanged. Apparently, he had a VERY good time.

No I Didn’t See The Booby

It was certainly an exciting football game, much better than last year’s. We tuned out for the halftime show, as I could care less about what MTV puts out (with the exception of Newlyweds which I love). I’m glad the Pats won, but Tom Brady MVP? I don’t think so. He seems to be a bit of a tool.

I took two pictures of the Machu Picchu dig site for you to see. They are on my website. This is where I did the reverse archeology. Geoff and I are going to attend the Members Night on February 18, to check out the exhibit and to catch the new IMAX show Coral Reef (which opens in March).

We are expected to get more snow Tuesday night. I’m glad these snow days are few and far between.

Honey goes to the kitty cat dentist this week to get her teeth cleaned. Then we’ll start putting her back on dry food. It’s better for her teeth. The wet food was to help her lose weight, and she’s at a good weight now (don’t we all wish it were that easy?).

My plan for this week is to read, watch some movies, mail some letters, and hopefully tackle a movie. I also aim to organize some photos and maybe even do some scrapbooking. We’ll see.

I’ll close with a quote from Hackers (I have to get this on DVD soon).

Dade: Who’s that?

Phantom Phreak: Curtis.

Dade: And what’s he do?

Phantom Phreak: That’s it man. You’re looking at it. He just looks slick all day.
