Wish You Were Here

Sigh, I miss Geoff. 🙁

I have a countdown clock to remind me how long it will be until he’s home. We haven’t been apart this long since July 2001, when I went to E-Town for my mom’s wedding, and Lisa & Chad’s wedding. Before that, it was the two weeks I went to E-Town for Dylan’s baptism in 2000. So it’s not unfamiliar for me, it’s just usually I’m the one off galavanting, and he’s at home. Also new is the little man who misses his daddy. Elijah cried at the airport when Geoff left.

Not much else is going on. I have to take a trip to the post office today, and stock up on stamps, since they raised the price. I already took a trip to Target this morning, had the whole store to myself practically. I hope to continue organizing our filing cabinet while Geoff is away. We’ve shredded a ton already, and it’s so great to see progress.

I’m hoping to hear some exciting news about my future nephew or niece today. I’ll keep you posted as I learn stuff.

I watched 28 Days last night, ’cause you all know how I love Sandra Bullock. It was a good movie. So now I’ll close with a quote from it.

Betty: Tonight’s lecture: “What’s wrong with celebrating sobriety by getting drunk?”

Early Celebrating

Let the birthday celebrating begin!

Last night I opened my presents (that were here), knowing I was getting some DVDs and wanted to watch something last night. Today we’ll go out to dinner, and we’ll make my cake, but we won’t cut into it until tomorrow. We are having couples group here tomorrow, and birthday cake is best when it’s shared with others (IMHO). I did get some money, so now begins the hemming and hawing of what to spend it on.

I’m awful like that. Do I buy myself some clothes, or do I dare buy myself something off my Amazon wishlist? Do I save my money? Sigh. I’m sure whatever I decide I’ll like it. 🙂

Busy today. Off to Peet’s and a trip to Crate & Barrel to buy dishes. I got a gift card for Christmas, and we ordered another gift card with our AMEX points. We want to get a set of dishes that we use when we have company over for dinner. Especially since we love having friends over for dinner. Here’s what we’re thinking of:

Simple and easy to coordinate with any color.

I’m not freaking out about my age this year. My life is fantastic. I have a wonderful little family, we have a beautiful home, and I have family and friends (near & far) that fill my life with joy (and a little drama sometimes too). Could life get any better?

Canadian Politics

Just for kicks, I took a quiz to find out which Canadian PM candidate I am most aligned with. I am not eligible to vote, I’ve been out of the country too long, plus I have no intention of returning. This equals me not being able to vote. And really, why would I if I could? I don’t live there, if the country wants to go to hell in a handbasket, it’s not up to me to save it.

So I wasn’t all that surprised to see I was 100% aligned with Stephen Harper, the Conservative Party candidate. That’s pretty much where I was aligned 6 years when I left Canada.

Anyways, good luck to those in the Great White North with your election this month. Get out and vote!

Saying Goodbye

Imagine my shock and sadness as Elijah and I walk into Harry & David yesterday to see a huge red “Store Closing Sale” sign. Kevin was the only one there, so I said,
“you’re closing?!”
He just smiled a disappointed smile, and said “yeah.”
“what? I think I could just cry.”
“yeah, we’ve all done that. They told us after the Christmas party last week”

When I asked him if people were going to transfer to other stores, he got that smile on his face and said,
“no. they said they have all the staff they need from their temporary Christmas staff.”

So the fact that Kevin is an asst. manager means nothing, he’ll be unemployed by months end. Nicole too. She showed up a little later, and got in her Elijah time. They have a special bond, since she’s seen him at least once a month since birth. 🙂 I told her I’d go wherever she works and visit.

So yeah, Mom, Diane, no more H&D at Cherry Creek. We can still get H&D products, there is a store right near us, but no Kevin or Nicole.

On a much lighter note…

The day we brought cookies to Myrna’s house, we hung out with the family (4 kids + husband) for 40 minutes. The rest of the evening, Myrna’s two-year old Emma kept asking her, “Where’s Lijah?” We’re going over next Tuesday for a play date and brunch. 🙂 Yay!

I think we’ll celebrate my birthday this weekend (it’s on the 11th by the way). I think we’ll go to Outback, since I love it, and haven’t been in a while. I’d like to make Pat’s yummy angel food cake, with the caramel whipped cream frosting and crushed heath bar.

Well, I’ll be signing off. I’ll close with a quote from Anchorman, for Mike. Watch it again, I swear it’s funny.

Ron Burgundy: Last time I looked in the dictionary, my name’s Ron Burgundy. What’s your name?
Brian Fantana: Brian Fantana.
Champ Kind: Champ Kind.
Brick Tamland: Brian Fantana.
Brian Fantana: No, you’re Brick.
Brick Tamland: Brian.
Brian Fantana: I’m Brian.
Brick Tamland: Veronica.

Scrubs Is Back Baby!

The long wait is over, Scrubs returns tonight with *two* new episodes. I had almost forgotten where things were left last season.

In other tv news, I love that Fox has been airing reruns of House on Mondays. I’m getting caught up, slowly, but I’m getting there. I’m also not ashamed to admit I watched 4 of the 5 nights of Deal Or No Deal. It was entertaining, and even more fun to talk about with my peeps. 😉

I’ll close with a quote from Scrubs.

Janitor: Gentlemen. Crazy-Eyes Margo. I’ve called the Brain Trust together for one reason. I have to find a way to make Blonde Doctor mine.
Randall: Burn down her apartment.
Troy: I have an idea. But we’re going to need a tugboat.
Janitor: Tugboats and arson, that’s all I ever get from you guys.
